The Renaissance Project

We believe in publishing with a purpose, and that means not only discovering emerging writers, but supporting education and literacy in our communities.

Plenary Publishing is proud to announce The Renaissance Project, our new initiative to fund and support the opening of The North Charleston Preparatory Charter School in North Charleston, South Carolina, and other programs.

Through this project, Plenary Publishing will release the works of some of the greatest African-American writers and intellectuals of our time, including George Washington Carver, Frederick Douglass, Phillis Wheatley, W.E.B. DuBois and Booker T. Washington.  Although these works exist in the public domain and available for free, we are collecting selected titles, editing them, and packaging them into the Renaissance Volumes, with 100% of the proceeds benefitting North Charleston Prep and other projects.

We’re focusing on North Charleston Prep because of the severe achievement gap in South Carolina and the Charleston-area, a sad statistic reflected in other parts of country. By supporting the Renaissance Project, you will aid in opening the school and ensuring that its students have the tools they need to compete and succeed on a global level.

The Renaissance Volumes will be published in hardcover and e-book, and will be released in March 2011.
